Novak Djokovic To Meet US #1

Novak Djokovic is set to play the new US number 1 Mardy Fish after he defeated Kevin Anderson 6-4 6-2 in what can be described in one of the toughest matches he has played in the current Miami masters tournament. Anderson did well to push the lately unstoppable Serb to his limits in the first set. Should Novak win his next match, he'll have booked his place in the final of the tournament and could be set to win 1000 ATP points, potentially making him a threat to Rafael Nadal's world no1 rank. Rafael Nadal will face Tomas Berdych, and Roger Federer will face Gilles Simon, the two winners meeting for the last of the semi final matches. In the likely event that Rafa and Roger should meet, our bets lie with Rafa to meet Nole in the final. Although, we don't think this is the end of Roger Federer yet.

Tennis meets Soccer in aid of Japan

Earlier this week there has been a couple of charity exhibition events in tennis to help raise money for Japan. There's been the 'Tennis for Japan' event, where several top WTA and ATP players got involved, and the 'Hope Match for Japan' where Novak Djokovic and several others took part in a charity football event. The best pics from the two events are below.Novak makes an interesting entrance to the 'Tennis for Japan' event. He pretends to be flying a plane...Feliciano Lopez takes a shot in the 'Hope Match for Japan'.David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Viktor Troicki speak to the cameras.Andy Murray looks solemn as he stands in line amongst the participants of the charity football match.Novak Djokovic again......giving the cameramen some time.Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco look on.Tsonga tries his hand as he aims to shoot.By the looks of it, the event was very successful. The charity match, which the Fort Lauderdale Strikers won 4-2, was followed by a gala dinner which raised more than $100,000. Marcos Baghdatis was the man of the match, and Andy Murray scored twice for the ATP World Tour All-Stars team. The team was captained by Nole.

Exclusive New Chanel Film Avec Keira

In the new ad campaign for Coco Mademoiselle, featuring the beautiful Keira Knightley, they manage to truly capture the feel of Paris. After seeing the teaser trailer, we anticipated the whole ad to be of a similar standard. Although it falls short of initial expectations, we like the minor inclusions of the preceding ad that also featured Knightley. An example can be seen in the photo below. The backdrop with a large shot of her face was taken from the previous Coco Mademoiselle ad.See what you make of the film yourself.

Analysing the Miami Masters Draw

It may come as a relief to many Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer fans that Novak Djokovic is on the other half of the Miami Masters 1000 draw. Also on Rafa's side of the draw is Andy Roddick (the defending champion), Berdych (last year's runner up) and notable player Tsonga. We don't like to predict this so early, but we think Nole will have an easy time en route to the finals, with the only slight possible threats being Ferrer, Murray and Verdasco. Andy Roddick has a lot on his plate right now to know he's on the same half of the draw as big player Rafa and Roger, whilst trying to defend the 1000 ATP points they are all playing for. Andy Roddick has won this tournament twice in the past, and so has Roger. Andy Murray and Nole have won it once. This year, Nole will be hoping to change that.

Tennis Boys to do Charity Soccer

It's delightful and almost relieving to know that many of the ATP tennis players will be taking part in an exhibition soccer match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (a professional soccer team). This will be taking place in an effort to raise money for the Japan disaster. Novak Djokovic has said on the matter “I am very concerned for the people of Japan and think it is only right that we do whatever we can to help those in need. I would love to see all of Miami support both events by showing up Wednesday, March 23rd at the Ransom Everglades High School soccer field at 7:00 pm to cheer on your favorite team and attending the dinner afterward". Nole's team will consist of Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Kei Nishikori, Fernando Verdasco, Richard Gasquet, Feliciano Lopez, Viktor Troicki, Jurgen Melzer and Marcos Baghdatis. Dinner and also an auction will take place after the soccer match.

Djokovic Plays Tennis on Plane's Wings

Above are a series of videos, produced by Head Tennis, showing their star player Novak Djokovic playing on the wings of a 'Flying Antonov II'. The idea came from a fan, according to Head tennis, who said the fan asked on Facebook “Has anybody ever tried this?” alongside a picture of 'two dare-devil men can be seen playing tennis on the wings of a biplane'. Novak Djokovic (being Novak Djokovic) took on the challenge.

What the New ATP Rankings Mean

It's the start of a new week, meaning the ATP ranks have been updated. Rafael Nadal still stands at #1, with an impressive number of points (12,630). After him is newly crowned #2 Novak Djokovic, with 8,710 points. He's no stranger to being #2 though, as on 01.02.10 (yes, we still remember that happy day) Nole was #2 for his first time ever. It's clear that it'll be a while before Nole can even think about overtaking Rafa, with almost 4,000 points between them. It is possible though, in the unlikely event that Rafa fails to defend in Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Roger Federer at #3 is only slightly behind Nole with 8,280 points, meaning that Nole can't afford to be complacent. Having said that, Roger will have to work hard in Miami to get those points in between him and Nole. Robin Soderling is ranked #4 (5,735 points), ahead of Andy Murray (ranked #5, 5,545 points). We're unashamed in voicing our approval of Murray's comparatively low rank and points to the others. It might, just might, stop those annoying, biased commentators on Sky Sports from saying they think Andy Murray is the best, when he's clearly not. Get us some new commies for these new, changing times in tennis!

Novak Djokovic is truly Flying Without Wings

Yes, it's the news that everyone in the tennis world is talking about. Novak Djokovic defeated the world no1, Rafael Nadal, in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters yesterday with a score of 4-6 6-3 6-2, just a day after defeating the (then) world no2 Roger Federer in the semis. No-one really knows what's gotten in Djokovic, but we're happy to know that he'll never be underestimated again. Here are the best pics of Novak yesterday in California.Novak in a blue/white Sergio Tacchini tracksuit, holding the Indian Wells trophy up high.Nole was ecstatic upon defeating his pal and world no1.What a priceless reaction!Nole holds the heavy-looking Indian Wells trophy......and kisses it too.Rafa claps for his friend as he lifts the trophy up. We wish Rafa wasn't so hard on himself and could have been happy being the runner-up for once. He played terrifically. We're becoming accustomed to the roar. And he takes off his Sergio Tacchini sweatbands and throws them in the audience, like he did upon winning the AO2011.Nole sits in front of the Serbian flag with his new trophy. Our favourite photos are when the two players meet in the middle of the net at the end of a game. Sometimes fake, sometimes real emotions are conveyed here. Between Nole and Rafa, it's always real. Nole said afterwards: “I am playing with a lot of confidence. I'm feeling the ball well on the court. I'm very dedicated. I have a big will to win each match I'm playing on, so it will not stop here, definitely. I want to keep on going and keep on playing good tennis. Hopefully I can recover and get ready for Miami”. Rafa said: “The serve was the difference today in my opinion. It's true I played with less intensity after the first set, but I think everything is because of the serve. So just congratulate him. I think he did better than possible to start one season. He's playing well. He's in the right place at the right moment, so all the best for him for the rest of the season”. Good luck to both in Miami!

Novak Back with #2 Rank

After winning his match against Roger Federer yesterday (6-3 3-6 6-2), Novak Djokovic has regained his #2 ATP rank. Roger said “I had my chances today in the singles. I thought it was a good match, played at a high level. I know I wasn't far away at all today, because I really had him going. But look, I guess he escaped. I guess confidence is a big thing for him at the moment. I'm sure it's gonna be a good final tomorrow”. In our mind, Nole has definitely proved himself against Roger Federer now, regardless of the ranks. Nole has no time to sit back, for he'll face #1 Rafael Nadal later today. Djokovic has said: “I have played Nadal many times, and many times in the late stages of the tournaments, especially in the semis and finals of the major events. I know how it feels like to be in the big stand or how it feels like to play him, so I will be prepared. I want this trophy as much as he wants it, so we'll both step into the court tomorrow wanting that win”. We're not sure about Nole's chances against Nadal today, as his record against Nadal in tour finals stands as 0-5, which looks bleak. Let's just enjoy the Rafole final and not think about the outcome just yet.

Delpo Pushes Nadal... But not Hard Enough

Before going on to say how happy we are for Nadal, in that he has (unsurprisingly) reached the finals of the BNP Paribas Open, we really need to express our condolences for Del Potro. He played brilliantly and has risen out of the dark places to where we expect to see him, that is, in the quarter/semis of these big tournaments. He pushed Nadal to the brink in the first set 4-1, but somehow, the world #1 managed to win the set 4-6 after almost losing it. The second set didn't go too well for the Argentine in addition to the first. He lost gracefully to the Spaniard 4-6 4-6. Rafa was defeated in doubles with Lopez against Federer and his Suisse friend Wawrinka, who have made the finals of the tournament. They both won an Olympic Gold together, so it shouldn't be too hard to win this! As for Rafa, we're yet to see if he'll face Roger or Nole.

Nole's Tribute to Japan in Unlikely Place

Nole must have used a Sharpie or something to write 'Japan' on his Sergio Tacchini socks during his match yesterday. We appreciate this as being one of the first tributes we've personally seen during the Indian Wells Masters this year. We hoped they would have done an exhibition match in order to raise money for Japan and the surrounding affected areas. They should think of doing it before the Miami masters start.

Djokovic Devastates

Is there no end to Novak Djokovic's successes? He has just defeated Richard Gasquet, 6-2 6-4, to book his place in the semi finals of the Indian Wells Masters in California. Time will tell if he'll face Stanislas Wawrinka or Roger Federer, but of course we are all secretly expecting and hoping that Roger will make it through. We're not sure if, in the likely case that Djokovic meets Federer, that he'll win. Regrettably we don't know how well Roger has been doing lately, but it's obvious that he wants to keep his #2 rank and he'll fight for it because he has something to lose. Nole has nothing to lose. On the other side of the draw, we're happy to know that Del Potro and Nadal remain. We can't think of any others more worthy of their places in the semi finals. Despite Del Potro being capable of winning a grand slam (USO2009), it'll be hard for him to down the Spaniard who's won several. We'll see how the semis pan out. It'll be hard to support one of the remaining four boys without feeling bad for the other three. Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin Del Potro, Novak Djokovic, and (most likely) Roger Federer. All are winners to us.

Keira Knightley Mounts a Bike for Chanel

Could this preview of the new Coco Mademoiselle film, starring the British actress Keira Knightley, be one of the better Chanel films of this era? We enjoyed the preview immensely, despite it's length being tantalisingly short. Keira adapts to the Joss Stone notes wonderfully (the song played is It's a Man's Man's Man's World). We like the idea of Keira being a proactive, independent woman, using her own motorbike rather than depending on others. We wonder where the determined-looking woman is heading to. The film is called 'A Short Ride'. We liked the old Coco Mademoiselle film too, starring Keira Knightley in a floor length red shift dress. It captured elegance and nighttime Paris perfectly.UPDATE: We have just found an additional teaser trailer that was released today.

Nole Shows No Mercy. But We Love It.

We apologise for being almost 24 hours late in congratulating Novak Djokovic on gaining his place in the QFs of Indian Wells, but nonetheless we're quite happy about it. We can't believe that, for the second time in a row, he's managed the score 6-0 6-1, the latter of the two times against one of his good friends (Viktor Troicki). Nole and Viktor crashed out of their try at doubles, though that was neither of theirs first priority anyway. Nole's recent brilliance really does beg the answer to the question: is Novak Djokovic the best player in the world right now?

Nole Gives Gulbis a Breadstick & a Bagel

Despite having a soft spot for both Novak Djokovic and Ernests Gulbis, we are afraid to say that our allegiance lies with Nole foremost. To hear he gave Ernie a breadstick and a bagel with an amazing score of 6-1 6-0 has done nothing to stop the speculation about Nole being, quite possibly, the best player in the world right now. Even Rafa and Roger don't scare us anymore in the case they meet Nole, because he has proved that he is one of the biggest players.

Novak Shows us he Likes to Play

Indian Wells is one of Novak Djokovic's favourite tournaments to show us his playful side. Here are some pics of Nole off and on court during the currently playing tournament.Nole relaxes with a towel hung around his shoulders.Nole gives a smile whilst practicing, in a simple red Sergio Tacchini t-shirt and white shorts.Nole is armed with his weapon, the Youtek Speek racquet from Head.Andy Murray engaged in some football with Nole off court. It's nice to see Andy getting involved in such activities off court, especially with Nole. They are both coordinating in grey t-shirts.Novak and his pal Viktor Troicki get ready to play some doubles together. The two Serbs make a great team. What do you think Viktor has seen?.This is Viktor and Nole practicing together. There's no mistaking the Rolex-armed, wavy-haired guy as being Roger Federer, who Novak is giving attention to.
