Novak to Serve in Serb Open

Novak Djokovic is set to play in the Serbia Open (at the nicely named 'Tennis Centre Novak' in Belgrade), commencing 25th April. Including Nole, there'll be 28 players, counting Viktor Troicki, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Albert Montanes, Juan Monaco, John Isner, Feliciano Lopez, Janko Tipsarevic and Fernando Gonzalez, who'll compete for 250 ATP ranking points. The first time the Serbia Open took place was in 2009, which Nole won, but his inability to participate last year meant that Sam Querrey took the prize. I love the Serbia Open because of how it seems to be obsessed with our Novak. If you look at the picture below of Viktor Troicki and Novak (taken in 2009), you can see that the sponser is 'Aqua Novak' (Nole's brand of water)! Fans attending the Serbia Open may also want to visit Novak's restaurant whilst they're there. Hopefully, things go to plan and Nole can win without any problem.

Sensational Rafa Reigns for Seventh Time

Rafael Nadal won the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters for his seventh consecutive time, after defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer today in straight sets 6-4 7-5. Ferrer put up a good fight against the King of Clay, making the final be of a much higher quality than last year, where Rafa defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-0 6-1.At the awards presentation, Rafa said "It's really emotional and unbelievable for me. [To] start the clay season like this is fantastic, but [it] is fantastic winning Monte Carlo another time. Probably is a tournament that in the category of [ATP World Tour Masters] 1000 tournaments is the one that I feel more emotional when I am playing for the history of the tournament because here in 2003 everything started. [To] win seven times in a row any where is almost impossible I think. But to win Monte Carlo, all the best players in the world are here, you always have tough matches, is impossible to imagine for me. So I am very lucky, I think." Very gracious, Rafa.It would be wrong to say that Rafa was the only gracious man upon the result. Ferrer said "Rafa is incredible on clay. I mean, he's everywhere at the same time. He's the best player on clay in history. Generally speaking I'm very happy. I'm happy with my game also. I was a bit sad about certain moments. But generally speaking I'm happy. I'm satisfied with my game. Reaching the finals here is very difficult to achieve and I'm very happy". At the end of the match, Rafa's reaction was priceless.

Third Round Round-Up, Tomorrow's Preview

Rafael Nadal put a stop to Gasquet's progress in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters today, after defeating the Frenchman 6-2, 6-4. The score is a little deceiving in my opinion. Rafa played great, but today it seemed as though he was struggling in the end of the second set despite managing to close it out. Gasquet actually managed to break back to even it out at 4-4, when Rafa got his revenge back and broke him to serve for the match on •5-4. Elsewhere, Roger Federer managed to defeat Marin Cilic and make it through to the quarter-finals, after scoring 6-4 6-3. Also today; Andy Murray defeated Gilles Simon in straights 6-3 6-3; Ferrer df. Raonic 6-1 6-3; Ljubicic df. Berdych 6-4 6-2; Melzer df. Almagro 6-1 6-4; Gil df. Monfils 7-6(6) 6-2 and Troicki df. Robredo 3-6 2-1(retired). On the central court tomorrow there'll be four quarter final matches; Troicki vs Ferrer; Melzer vs Federer; Nadal vs Ljubicic and Murray vs Gil. We expect to see Ferrer, Federer, Nadal and Murray winning tomorrow and sadly think it's just a matter of chance that Troicki has made it through. We'll see, tomorrow.

Nadal & Murray... New Relationship?

Not quite. Rafa still only has eyes for Nole, although what can be said is that Rafa's friendship with Andy is blossoming... slightly. The two were caught today in Monte Carlo practicing together before they both played their early round matches against Nieminen and Stepanek. Much to the delight of the British media, Andy won over Stepanek with the score 6-1 6-4, ending his three-month losing streak. Rafa won too, unsurprisingly, 6-2 6-2. If practicing with Rafa before a match can make Andy win the coming match, he should do it more often. We like Fernando Verdasco, but were glad that Robredo saw him off because Nando defeated Nole last year in this same tournament. All in all, it's been a successful day at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and tomorrow promises to be better; Court Central, start 10:30 am, M Raonic (CAN) vs [4] D Ferrer (ESP); Not Before 11:30 AM [1] R Nadal (ESP) vs [13] R Gasquet (FRA); Not Before 1:30 PM, [15] M Cilic (CRO) vs [2] R Federer (SUI); [3] [WC] A Murray (GBR) vs [16] G Simon (FRA); G Monfils (FRA) / J Tsonga (FRA) vs [5] M Fyrstenberg (POL) / M Matkowski (POL); Court Des Princes, start 10:30 am, I Ljubicic (CRO) vs [5] [WC] T Berdych (CZE); T Robredo (ESP) vs [11] V Troicki (SRB); [Q] F Gil (POR) vs [8] G Monfils (FRA); [7] J Melzer (AUT) vs [9] N Almagro (ESP).

Federer's Fab Fashion, Finished?

It has to be said of Roger Federer. We don't think many of his fans are happy with this latest shirt he's been wearing in Monte Carlo, which is garish when compared to his stylish previous shirts. The dark blue and grey is deeply unflattering and the collarless style isn't particularly nice either. It's time for Roger to remember the hype he created when he brought out his last year's muted pink and blue shirts, and perhaps he should bring them out again. We loved them. Whilst, at the moment, his fashion sense seems to have declined, that can't be said about his tennis.

Tip Top Men Tomorrow in MC

Tomorrow, the wait will be over. We've all been dying to see Rafael Nadal play on clay to see if he's still the monster he was on clay last year. He's set to play unseeded player J. Nieminen on the central court. Wildcard Andy Murray will have to prove his worth tomorrow when trying to take on Stepanek, which will take place after Nadal exterminates his opponent. Here's the official order of play for tomorrow; Court Central, G Garcia-Lopez (ESP) vs [13] R Gasquet (FRA); Not Before 11:30AM, D Gimeno-Traver (ESP) vs [8] G Monfils (FRA); Not Before 1:30 PM, [1] R Nadal (ESP) vs J Nieminen (FIN); [3] [WC] A Murray (GBR) vs [WC] R Stepanek (CZE); L Dlouhy (CZE)/J Tipsarevic (SRB) vs G Monfils (FRA)/J Tsonga (FRA); Court Des Princes, start 10:30 am, F Lopez (ESP) vs [4] D Ferrer (ESP); Not Before 11:30 AM, A Montanes (ESP) vs [16] G Simon (FRA); [6] F Verdasco (ESP) vs T Robredo (ESP); [7] J Melzer (AUT) vs R Haase (NED). On a final note, we'd like to congratulate Roger Federer on a superb match today, winning it with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Nadal voices Expected Struggle for No1

Rafael Nadal has commented on how he expects to have to battle to retain his world no1 ATP rank whilst in Monte Carlo yesterday. Last year, he won all three of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournaments and will have to defend all three this year in order to defend his ATP ranking points. At the VIP Village yesterday at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, the Spaniard said: “What I did last year, winning Monte-Carlo, Rome, Madrid and Roland-Garros, was historic. I don’t think that I can do it this year. It didn’t happen in 50 or 60 years. So I guess I can’t do the same two times in a row. Of course, it’s very open. Roger has a chance; Djokovic as well. I have some advantage in the [South African Airways 2011] ATP Rankings for now, but you never know how things will turn out. Novak is playing extremely well. He’s got a huge potential and he’s on a winning streak which gives him a lot of confidence. So we’ll see at the end of the year who will be No. 1". Currently, Rafa has 12,870 points (1), Novak Djokovic has 9,700 (2) and Roger Federer has 8,550 (3). Should Rafa fail to defend even one of the upcoming clay tournaments, Nole will be a lot closer to the ultimate rank of #1.

No Sweat, Rafa. No Pressure, Roger.

Now that today's matches are over, the draw is truly taking shape in Monte-Carlo, a favourite tournament amongst the hearts of many tennis fans and players. On Rafa's side of the draw, the only slight (as in 1%) threats he could face is Tomas Berdych, Tsonga or Andy Murray. We don't see any probable threats in Roger's side of the draw either, but if we had to say there was, it would be David Ferrer or Fernando Verdasco. Fernando Verdasco and Monte-Carlo is branded a taboo our my book if mentioned in the same sentence. He crushed Nole last year 6-2 6-2 in the semi finals of the said Masters tournament. We'd love to see a Fedal happen this year in Monte Carlo because we want the term 'Fedal' to have the chance to mean what it used to mean. Top-quality tennis.

Djokovic Destroys Dozens of Hearts with Decision

Words cannot convey the distress caused regarding Novak's sudden decision to withdraw from the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, that was scheduled to commence on 9th April. His message on Facebook told us that he withdrew because of his health: "It is a sad day for me,guys. Had to pull out from Monte Carlo tournament. Monaco is place where i live and spend most of my time practicing. Each year i am looking forward to this event, because it's one of my favorites. This time i had to prioritize my health and rest of the season, for which i have high ambitions. I believe i will be recovered and ready for upcoming events on clay courts. I apologize to all my fans who bought tickets to come and watch me play here, hope this will not discourage you from following me in the future. I live here so you may see me around - a little hint for you - I spend most of my time at "La Spiaggia" restaurant (on the beach) during the lunch time ;) See you!!!" It's understandable that Nole needs a rest after playing like a maniac since the start of the year. However many of his fans are only to eager for his return.

Monte-Carlo Masters Teasing Teaser

The Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters starts on the 9th April, marking the start of the ever-exciting clay season. The draw is yet to be released. The players entry list is all we have to feed on at the moment- Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, Fernando Verdasco and Jurgen Melzer are the top eight confirmed players for the tournament (Murray and Berdych were granted wildcards). Despite Nole's fabulous form since December last year, we doubt he will be able to put an end to Rafa's 6 year winning streak of this tournament. After winning last year, Rafa said "...sure for me is very emotional. Is probably my favorite tournament. I love this tournament. Win here another time is a dream for me". It's going to take more than Nole and Roger put together to beat the monster this year.

Nole Poses for Pics in Miami

Us Nole fans are being accustomed to our player winning tournaments now. Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami... (the list will go on, hopefully). A treat for us for being such good supporters is the package of photos that arise from the awards ceremonies. Novak Wins Miami, & lots of Records

Novak Djokovic has just defeated world number one Rafael Nadal in a three-set thriller in the finale of the Miami Masters 1000 (Sony Ericsson Open) of 2011 (4-6 6-3 7-6). Winning the 1000 points means that Nole will be that much closer to the ultimate #1 rank, with Rafa getting 600 points too. Tomorrow, Rafa will officially have 13,230 points, and Nole will have 9,710. The gap can be closed should Nole win some of the tournaments in the upcoming clay season, where Rafa has to defend them all. Nole has records on his mind too as well as ranks. He has the third-longest winning streak to start a season in the past 30 years (24 wins) behind Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe. Djokovic has become the fourth player since 1990 to win the three biggest titles (Australian Open, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells, Miami) in the first three months of a year, plus, he has become the first player to win Indian Wells and Miami in the same year since Roger Federer in 2006. Keep up the good work, Djokovic! Best of luck in Monte-Carlo next week.
